Regarding investigations by the CRL Rights Commission SAHUC
17 October 2025 articles TO EDITORS/REPORTERS 14 OCTOBER 2025 MEDIA STATEMENT ISSUED BY THE CRL RIGHTS COMMISSION REGARDING AN INVESTIGATION TO BE UNDERTAKEN ON THE SOUTH AFRICAN HAJJ AND UMRAH COUNCIL (SAHUC) The Commission for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Cultural, Religious, and Linguistic Communities will establish a Section Seven committee (according to the CRL Act 19 of 2002, Section 7) to investigate allegations of corruption and misconduct against the South African Hajj and Umrah Council (SAHUC) as referred to it by Parliament. Once the investigation is completed, the Commission will submit a report outlining its findings and recommendations to Parliament. This initiative is vital for ensuring transparency, accountability, and safeguarding the rights of all communities involved. Ultimately, the outcome of this process will help to protect the rights and interests of South African pilgrims participating in Hajj operations. The Commission encourages members of the Muslim community to submit brief statements or evidence regarding the challenges they have faced.
