Question

Replacing 4x car tyres is getting costly. This can easily cost about R6000. The condition of SA roads are becoming terribly poor. Potholes are big, common and almost on every road. By bursting one's tyre due to such potholes on the roads we use everyday, will cost one a lot of money to replace the tyre. Can taking out a type of a car-tyre insurance or something similar be permitted in such conditions we living in? Some tyre companies offer such services that you pay for example R100 a month to cover your tyre should it be damaged by potholes.

Answer

Tyre insurance and all kinds of insurance are haraam. Even the so-called ‗islamic' insurance deceptively dubbed ‗takafol' is haraam.
