The families of the bride and groom want to have a joint walimah.

Question

The families of the bride and groom want to have a joint walimah. They will share the expenses for the food, hiring the venue, etc. Is such a joint walimah correct?

Answer

A walimah is a simple feast of gratitude. After the Nikah, the husband should call a few relatives and friends to his own house for a simple meal. Hiring a venue is part of the satanism in which Muslims are trapped today. The joint venture which the two parties may plan is also shaitaaniyat. It is not a walimah. It is a function to gratify the egoistical dictates of the nafs.
