While my wife insists on a separate house, my parents refuse.

Question

While my wife insists on a separate house, my parents refuse. They want us to live together in the same house. Who has a greater right according to the Shariah? What do I do in this case?

Answer

In this case it is not permissible for you to obey your parents. Separate accommodation is the Waajib right of the wife. If she insists, you have no option but to respectfully decline the instruction of your parents.
