The estate of a deceased was finalized only after several years. Must Zakaat be paid on the money held in the trust account?
Answer
There is no Zakaat payable on the wealth the deceased leaves. The inheritors will pay Zakaat on their shares only after they gain possession of the money. As long as the funds are with the executors, Zakaat is not payable. It is Waajib to wind up the estate with extreme haste. It is haraam to delay it.
