Question
What is the Islamic way of celebrating Eid? The widespread custom is to meet extended family, have parties, wear new and fancy clothes, give each other gifts, etc. What does celebration mean?
Answer
Eid is an auspicious day. There is no Masnoon ‗celebration' for this day. The only difference between Eid and other days is Eid Salaat and Qur'baani. All activities associated with Eid days mentioned by you, are baseless innovated customs. While new clothes, if affordable, are permissible, fancy and fashion clothes motivated by riya and takabbur are haraam. Remain at home and make not a display of yourself and your family in the ways acquired from the Yahood and Nasaara. ‗Celebration' is their speciality. For us, it is a Day of Ibaadat.
