A large amount was fixed as Mahr. However, for some reason, the husband gave Talaaq before consummating the marriage. Should he still pay the Mahr?
Answer
Half the fixed amount is Waajib if Talaaq is issued before consummation. Consummation in the context is not restricted to actual sexual relations. Mere privacy with the woman is also regarded as consummation.
