In terms of Rasulullah’s (sallallahu alayhi wasallam) instruction, it is necessary to face the animals towards the Qiblah. The fact that it is a command of Allah Ta’ala should be sufficient to convince a Muslim of its imperative importance. Sahaabah would abstain from eating the meat of an animal which had been slaughtered while it was not facing the Qiblah.
