Many Muslims argue that we live in an age where the cost of living and bills are high.

Question

Many Muslims argue that we live in an age where the cost of living and bills are high. Therefore it is necessary for both husband and wife to work. Would this fall within the ambit of need?

Answer

This argument is absolutely fallacious. It is haraam for the wife to leave the home precincts to earn. Due to the wasteful kuffaar lifestyle, women also crave to work. There is no necessity here. Spending should be within the bounds of income. Extra money is required for waste, luxury and haraam expenditure.
