Question
I am liable for some Qur'baanis which were Waajib. A friend owes me a substantial amount which he cannot repay. Will my Qur'baani obligation be discharged if I cancel the debt in lieu of the Qur'baani amount?
Answer
Waiving a debt does not absolve you from the Qur'baani obligation. The actual monetary sum should be given as Sadqah to the poor. The price of a sheep/goat is necessary for one Qadha Qur'baani.
