Question
A person intended to fast the next day of Ramadhaan. However, before Subh Saadiq he decided that he will not be fasting. During the day he ate. Is he liable for the 60 day Kaffaarah?
Answer
If this person had opened his eyes before Subh Saadiq and cancelled his niyyat, then he will not be liable for Kaffaarah if he does not fast the next day. But abstention from fasting without valid Shar‟i reason is akin to kufr. It is a calamity of mammoth proportion.
