Is any purdah to be observed for one‟s mother-inlaw?

Question

Is any purdah to be observed for one‟s mother-inlaw?

Answer

A man should not be free nor be in privacy with his mother-in-law. He may appear in front of her. She should be dressed respectfully and modestly. Her hair should be covered. He should not shake hands with her. He may not go with her on a journey. There are too many cases of immorality between men and their mothers-inlaw. There is a great need for caution when dealing with them and even with one's stepmother.
