Question
Is it permissible for a woman to abstain from fasting if she is sure that her milk will dry up? The baby is breastfed only. If yes, should she pay the Fidyah?
Answer
If fasting will cause drying up of the milk, then she is permitted to abstain from fasting, but the missed days will have to be made qadhaa after Ramadhaan at the first available opportunity. Monetary compensation (Fidyah) in this case is not valid.
